Studio LONK is an Amsterdam-based design studio specialized in spatial storytelling. We create spaces that make a story come to life, designing and building worlds that provoke thought and engagement.

In bold, playful and colorful ways we explore complex topics in contemporary and future society. From the questionable ‘wisdom of the crowd’ to the consumption of happiness, and from the future of the office to the concept of home in 2030 and beyond. We immerse audiences in interactive interiors that imagine or anticipate possible scenarios, materializing a narrative with form, color, text, sound and various media.

Founded by sociologist Anna Dekker and spatial designer Celine de Waal Malefijt, studio LONK operates in the fields of interior architecture, installation art, speculative design, and architectural and sociological theory. Each project is a result and starting point of extensive research. What makes this topic worth exploring? How do visitors respond to an alternative reality? Do they believe a possible future to be desirable or not, and what is their personal power to change its course? A visit to one of our installations is an active experience meant to stimulate thought, debate, a (re)consideration of your perspective, and possibly action.

The combination of social research and societal reflection on the one hand, and spatial design and installation art on the other hand is unique to studio LONK. We like to initiate our own projects and partner with forward-thinking cultural, technological and commercial partners. In addition we enjoy teaching at various art academies and universities.

The projects of studio LONK have come about in close collaboration with: Shami Durrani (head of production) - Lion Zeegers (co-founder) - Thomas Tiel Groenestege - Ailisha Shannon - Eva James - Fons Venner - Christiaan Bakker - Jorien Kemerink (co-founder studio KNOL*)

* From 2009 - 2018 studio LONK operated under the name "studio KNOL".
