‘The old makes way for the new’

Old + New KLM
2015

Studio LONK designed a rotating installation for KLM that shows the materials from the new and old KLM business class collection in the window of the Bijenkorf flagship store.

The airline invited well-known Dutch designers Hella Jongerius, Viktor & Rolf and Marcel Wanders to design the new business class collection. The materials from the old collection went to the Design Academy, where students made new products from the remaining fabrics and carpets.

Studio LONK designed the rotating installation with which the "upcycled" designs were presented to the world. The use of round plexiglas in different shades of blue creates a cloudy, flying effect.

A photo series of the installation with Design Academy objects adorned the other Bijenkorf shop windows as well as the pages of KLM's Holland Herald Magazine.
